Long Arm Services Preparing Your Quilt
Preparing Your Quilt For Longarm Quilting Services
- Press all seams flat
- Remove loose threads on both the front and back of the quilt.
- Top must be clean.
- Points clipped, no pins or basting.
- Leave off embellishments until quilting is done.
- Backing and batting need to be at least 5 inches longer and wider than the quilt top on each side. Don’t baste or pin the layers together.
- If the backing needs to be pieced, sew the pieces together with a ½ inch seam and press open. Remove selvages* from the middle seam if it was pieced and square up. I will remove selvages on the outside edges.
- Make sure backing is square.
- Use a safety pin to mark the top of the quilt and the top of the backing if you have a preference.
- If you want curved corners, please wait to cut the curves until after the quilting is finished.
- Include fabric for binding if we are binding your quilt.
- Send a copy of the completed order form with your quilt.
- If you like, contact me and let me know it is on its way.
- Machine quilting will not correct excess material in borders and blocks.
- We can not correct tops that have ripples or uneven borders.
*Selvage: The lengthwise finished edge of a piece of fabric that is usually tightly woven. The selvage shrinks at a different rate than the rest of the fabric, and is hard to needle. As a result, it is usually cut off before measuring and sewing fabric pieces together.
